Out of pure interest and passion, while living in Valencia, I Caroline Lagergren, started back in 2018 to deep-dive into Spain’s innovation ecosystem. I read news in Spanish and observed what the key players on social media were talking about.

With time, my focus shifted to learning about the founders and tech talent that are building game-changing impact startups within green tech, clean tech and deep tech.

I spotted the early signs of the future unicorns in Spain and studied the first-generation unicorn founders in Spain that went on to build other successful startups and also launched some of the most influential and prosperous venture capital firms in Spain.

These findings in English - my insights and posts on LinkedIn - have proved to provide international investors with valuable deal-flow from early-stage startups and scale-up companies in Spain. As well as provided international journalists with otherwise scarce input to interesting stories on Spanish Innovation.

I am born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden with a strong genetic heritage from my Spanish great-grandmother. Something I often bring up to explain my overall ways of being and deep love for the Latin culture.

In the spring of 2024, I moved back to Stockholm where I am originally from. Today, there is so much more reporting in English than when I first started creating my insights and Thought Leadership pieces. I like to think that all the time and energy, dedicated to researching and writing about Spain's Innovation ecosystem, contributed to that.
